Comparing measures for determination of phosphorus saturation as a method to estimate dissolved P in soil solution

چکیده

In response to concerns over the translocation of P from soils P-sensitive water bodies, there is high demand for developing simple indicators evaluating a soil’s risk releasing into solution. Many studies have shown that degree soil phosphorus saturation (DPS), calculated as ratio concentration sorption capacity (PSC), good predictor in this study we compared four different DPS indices how well they predicted dissolved following extraction with either 0.01 M CaCl2 (PCaCl2) solution or deionized (PW). The first two were extractable Al and Fe using acid ammonium oxalate (AlOX + FeOX) lactate solutions (AlAL FeAL). second Olsen-extractable AL-extractable estimated single point index (PSI). On subset 11 soils, methods estimating PSC fitted Langmuir maximum (Smax) data complete isotherms. Both PSI correlated Smax hence regarded estimates capacity. Conversely, FeAL) was not significantly Smax. together PAL POls PCaCl2 PW best, whereas least. We did find notable improvements regression models when added explanatory variable (clay content, pH total carbon) models. Our results show multiple measures provide similar predictions soi?s potential This provides flexibility are identify leaching prone hotspots.

Colloidal and dissolved phosphorus in sandy soils as affected by phosphorus saturation.

Fertilization exceeding crop requirements causes an accumulation of phosphorus (P) in soils, which might increase concentrations of dissolved and colloidal P in drainage. We sampled soils classified as Typic Haplorthods from four fertilization experiments to test (i) whether increasing degrees of phosphorus saturation (DPS) increase concentrations of dissolved and colloidal P, and (ii) if criti...

Relating soil phosphorus to dissolved phosphorus in runoff: a single extraction coefficient for water quality modeling.

Phosphorus transport from agricultural soils contributes to eutrophication of fresh waters. Computer modeling can help identify agricultural areas with high potential P transport. Most models use a constant extraction coefficient (i.e., the slope of the linear regression between filterable reactive phosphorus [FRP] in runoff and soil P) to predict dissolved P release from soil to runoff, yet it...

Vertical Stratification of Soil Phosphorus as a Concern for Dissolved Phosphorus Runoff in the Lake Erie Basin.

During the re-eutrophication of Lake Erie, dissolved reactive phosphorus (DRP) loading and concentrations to the lake have nearly doubled, while particulate phosphorus (PP) has remained relatively constant. One potential cause of increased DRP concentrations is P stratification, or the buildup of soil-test P (STP) in the upper soil layer (<5 cm). Stratification often accompanies no-till and mul...
